I got to know Steffen as he was leading a
complex transfer of technology between
Switzerland and Germany To the US for Alstom
Power. A very tight project under both time and
cost pressure. From day one I was positively
impressed by his leadership, sense of
organization but also his ability to dig in the
details. Earmarked him as a talent for the
future.
Naturally some months after I selected him to
lead our global industrial team on the
development of our top end product. A very
challenging one as we were targeting a
performance never met yet on the market but
also tasked us with a very competitive cost in
order to offer the best value for money on the
market of giant gas turbines. I have been
working very closely with him during the 2
years of development and he has proven again
a great leadership, robust team playing
attitude, fostering on what was best for the
company. He was very successful in on-
boarding other functions to design a product
that would meet our lean concept for
assembly, to push our technicians and
suppliers to deliver capable components and
was a strong contributor to deliver our best gas
turbine ever. All this in a very positive mindset
and just asking for top management support
when he had exhausted all possible solutions.
I still remember the comments of our assembly
team after building the first prototype: << last
time we had to review more than 100 parts or
dimensions, this time 5 minor adjustments
were sufficient to make it >... think about this
the complexity of a jet engine in a baby of 500t
assembled in time with 5 minor adjustments
after 2 years of development! Great
performance for which Steffen deserves my
deep recognition. His skills and talent are those
of a robust leader.
